Food First NL is a provincial, non-profit organization established in 1998. For over twenty years, we have been at the forefront of food security action in the province. Food First NL’s mission is to actively promote comprehensive, community-based solutions to ensure access to adequate and healthy food for all.

The School Lunch Association is a registered charity and one of the largest social enterprises in Newfoundland and Labrador, with over 80 staff members working at 36 locations. The promotion of food security for all children is our top priority. For over 30 years we have been serving meals to local students, while adhering to our original mission statement, to operate a non-stigmatizing program that provides hot, nutritious lunches, to school children regardless of a families financial situation. The majority of our revenue is raised through our confidential “pay-what-you-can” business model, where all meals are pre-ordered, thus removing any stigma associated with what each family contributes. The remainder of our revenue is raised from donations, fundraising efforts, local partnerships and government grants.
