Supporting the health, well-being and education of all school aged children

Kids Eat Smart Foundation NL sets up and supports Kids Eat Smart Clubs in schools and community centres province wide. KES Clubs serve 5.3 million meals every school year. This number continues to grow as the need is great. With the financial support of government, individuals, companies and foundations, we ensure children are welcome to have breakfast in a safe, caring and non-stigmatizing environment, at no cost to the child or their families. Our 256 KES Clubs are community supported and key in maintaining the health and overall well-being of our school aged children in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The School Lunch Association is a registered charity and one of the largest social enterprises in Newfoundland and Labrador, with over 80 staff members working at 36 locations. The promotion of food security for all children is our top priority. For over 30 years we have been serving meals to local students, while adhering to our original mission statement, to operate a non-stigmatizing program that provides hot, nutritious lunches, to school children regardless of a families financial situation. The majority of our revenue is raised through our confidential “pay-what-you-can” business model, where all meals are pre-ordered, thus removing any stigma associated with what each family contributes. The remainder of our revenue is raised from donations, fundraising efforts, local partnerships and government grants.
