Covid-19 School Food response

Like organizations across Canada, many members of the Coalition for Healthy School Food are working hard to address the rising concerns around children’s lack of access to healthy food in the midst of COVID-19. Members have been busy redirecting their efforts and funds to address the interruption in school food programs brought on by widespread school closures. Many are continuing to provide meals, boxes and food cards during the summer. We are so impressed with the innovation, creativity and partnerships being implemented. Imagine what we could do with sustained federal funding to support all children and youth to access healthy food at school? Now is the time to explore how we can transition from the current immediate response to a federal investment in a national school food program. Read also about the recent advocacy efforts of members for a national school food program in the context of COVID-19.
